Last week on Wednesday, April 18th, Senator Joe Robach sponsored the East High School Girls Varsity Basketball team to visit the capital. On behalf of the Senate and Rochester Joe Robach wished to bring the girls to Albany to honor them for winning the Class A New York State Championship. The Senate honored the girls’ victory with a resolution on the Senate floor.
Senator Joe Robach arranged for a bus to take the girls to Albany from East High School. Once the twelve players and three coaches arrived at the State Capitol, they were treated to a pizza party in the Senate Labor Committee room where they had a chance to visit with Senator Joe Robach and his staff. After that the girls and the coaches were given a guided tour of the State Capitol Building. They had the opportunity to learn about the history of the capitol, the important role New Yorkers have played throughout the history of the United States. They also learned of the history of the Assembly Chamber and Senate Chamber, which is regarded as one of the most beautiful legislative chambers in the world.
Once the girls completed their tour, they took pictures with Senator Joe Robach on “Million Dollar Staircase” and on the Senate floor. Afterward, the Rochester East High Girls Varsity sat in the Senate gallery as a resolution in their honor was read into the official record of New York State. The resolution recognized the East High girls as the first women’s team from the Rochester City School District to win a state championship as well as recognizing the resilience of the girls’ team winning twenty games in a row after starting their season one and three. After the reading of the resolution, Senator Joe Robach Rochester spoke on the floor in honor of the girls’ team. Afterwards, the girls received a boxed dinner and headed back home to Rochester to start the journey towards their next state championship.
